UDL Lesson Plan Template

Below is a UDL lesson plan template that incorporates the core principles of Universal Design for Learning. This template is structured to ensure diverse learner needs are addressed and to encourage flexible, inclusive instructional strategies.

Instructions for Using the UDL Lesson Plan Template:

  1. Lesson Information: Fill in the basic details of your lesson, including its title, the date it will be taught, and its duration.
  2. Learning Objectives: Outline what students should achieve by the end of the lesson.
  3. UDL Principles: This section is at the core of the UDL lesson plan. For each UDL principle (Engagement, Representation, and Action & Expression), detail how you plan to integrate it into the lesson.
    • Engagement: Describe strategies to keep students motivated and engaged.
    • Representation: Explain the varied ways you’ll present content to cater to different learning preferences.
    • Action & Expression: Indicate how students will express their understanding and knowledge.
  4. Materials and Resources: List all materials and digital or physical resources you’ll need for the lesson.
  5. Assessment and Feedback: Describe how you’ll evaluate students’ understanding and how you’ll offer feedback.
  6. Reflection: After the lesson, come back to this section. Reflect on what went well, what didn’t, and where there might be room for improvement. This helps in refining future lessons.

Always remember, the essence of UDL is flexibility and inclusivity. While this template provides a structure, feel free to adjust it based on your unique classroom needs.
